Plus, four easy buttons--Scan, Copy, E-Mail and PDF--automate the entire scanning process, so your projects can go faster. Just position your original, select the use for the image, and in seconds it's ready! Included with the CanoScan 4200F scanner is a powerful suite of applications to help you organize your photos, featuring ArcSoft PhotoStudio. Now you can scan your old slides and negatives, turning old pictures into new again. Simply place them into the included film adapter and press the Scan button. The customer more profit on 260 of 262 people found this review helpful. Best scanner for under $ 500 from Gadgester I simply love the Canon CanoScan 4200F flat scanner for prints and films. And 'fast (in both scanning and transfer to PC), quiet, and has superb scan quality, esp. in 35 mm negative. (I have not tried to scan 35 mm slides.) Setup 4200F is pretty much a no-brainer, assuming you have Windows XP. (Users of Windows 98 will have to follow the instructions very carefully.) First, install the software - the scanner driver and scanning bar (called "toolbox") are only those programs needed to use the scanner, other applications (photo editing, OCR and Adobe Acrobat ) are optional. After restarting the machine (so that the scanner driver is loaded and runs as a service) Simply connect the USB 2.0 high speed cable and you're ready to go. Using the scanner is also quite simple. You can scan in three ways: directly from your image editor or organization (assuming universal supports the TWAIN interface, which most imaging programs worth their pennies to make), using the Canon Scan Toolbox, or any of the four buttons on the scanner itself, which calls the toolbox and automatically start a scan The four buttons are: - Copy. Your PC must be connected to an enabled printer for this to work. When you press Print, Canon scans and sends the file to the printer. - Scan. This is the button for scanning. When you press, the Canon scanning and the scanned image to the program designed for editing photos, specify a time through the toolbox. (This button corresponds to "scan" icon in the toolbar.) - PDF. This is the scanned image into a PDF file. - Email. This button scans and then calls the Outlook Express or Outlook to the corporate image as a JPEG attachment. The toolbox (toolbar) has more options for scanning. All are pretty simple Each option can be configured in detail, or you can specify all the settings to the controller. (The toolbox is an interface to the driver.) If you put things on the controller, to be able to adjust how the scanned image should look, in terms of color, contrast, sharpness, etc., etc. options are endless but in the beginning, using the toolbox makes scanning a breeze and less intimidating. One nice thing about Canon is the way makes it easier to understand what the resolution should be first examined, the 4200F is capable of 3200x6400 dpi (dots per inch). The 3200 dpi optical resolution is the real, which is the amount of small details that can be detected. The second number, 6400 dpi, refers to his "step" levels, which basically means that the sensor can test every inch 6400 times, but only detects up to 3200 points. When scanning, the Canon asks what the output * resolution and size you want, and then calculates the necessary input resolution that you scan a 4x6 "photo but want to be able to four times larger (or twice the width and print length, ie, 8x12 ") and print at 300 dpi. The Canon will automatically set the scan resolution of 600 dpi - that's twice as 4x6 print at 300 dpi. This gives you a 2400x3600 pixel file, which can then be printed at 8x12 "300 dpi (2400 / 8 = 3600/12 = 300 dpi). This concept of specifying output resolution rather than worrying about the dissolution of the entry works esp. Thus, for negative want to scan. Say you are scanning a 35mm negative. It would be hard to understand what is the scan resolution is the best. But if you know the print run a 4x6 "photo at 200 dpi, you say the driver so, and the driver will do the work for you and scan properly. Another feature I love is the Multi-Scan, you can scan multiple images at once and the driver automatically separates them here as I am using my 4200F: I set the Scan button, so it is Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 operator is affiliated.
