Awesome scanner once you get the issues worked out By Bebe Deimos I agree that I did have some problems with paper jams in the ADF. But then I noticed that it seemed to mostly happen with smaller width paper (11" long, but less than 8.5" wide) and legal size documents when trying to duplex. Well, then I read the manual (duh!) and it clearly states that the scanner is not set up to duplex legal size documents or unusual sized paper. So I thought that was a problem. But I am trying to scan all my documents into electronic form and so the scanner is only part of the solution -- electronic document management software is the other part. I got PaperPort Professional 10, set it up with the ISIS driver (the TWAIN driver is not so good) using the PaperPort scanner setup utility running all scanner tests -- and it started working perfectly! The key with legal and odd size documents is not to duplex! Scan one side with the ADF then turn the documents over, put them back in the feeder and let PaperPort do the collation. It works GREAT! This is EXACTLY the solution I have been looking for since I started scanning in all my paper documents about 5 years and many failed hardware/software solutions ago. I am using none of the software that came with the scanner, just downloaded the latest drivers directly from the HP website. The only issue I have noticed (which could explain why some people think the ADF is "broken") is that when a jam occurs (which hasn't happened since I started doing things using my new procedure) is that the ADF gets into a wierd state where it thinks that there is no paper in it even though there paper there. The fix: unplug/plug in (not turn off) the scanner and let it reinitialize. There are rollers in the ADF which get stuck in the down position during a jam that don't ever seem to reset unless you power cycle it (and you can't really turn off the scanner with the power switch -- it just puts it into standby mode). 36 of 37 people found the following review helpful. $700 and still not ready for prime time By psgenius If you are looking for a reliable scanner with a duplex automatic document feeder, save your money and sanity and keep looking. The included software is inflexible (global setting for duplex is either on, or off, you can't select the duplex setting without going through 5 menus and 8 clicks to turn duplex scanning on and off) Save the hair thats left on your head by avoiding this scanner and the included automatic document feeder jammer. Not only are the paper jams frequent (on the type of stuff you would regularly scan, I'm talking about bank statements that come right out of the post mail - not tissue paper) but a paper jam can actually destroy your documents if they get stuck mid-scan. There is no easy release button or pull. Pull tightly, and hope that the bottom advice piece of your phone bill does not take up permanent residence in the duplex bay of your scanner. A software update will not fix the paper jam feature, so just look elsewhere. HP, if you are reading, allow the user to select duplex or non-duplex for each scan. 29 of 30 people found the following review helpful. Doesn't completely work with Acrobat By David Kieras I got this to help me scan paper documents to save as pdfs to de-paper my office. Except for some difficulties clearing the rare paper jams, it seems to be fine mechanically. I would be satisfied except I haven't been able to make it play nice with Acrobat v. 7 for Windows XP SP2. The HP-supplied software will produce pdfs, but of generally poor quality compared to what the scanner can do driven from Acrobat. The problem is trying to get a scan of both sides of the paper from the ADF. The recommended TWAIN driver (the "Document" TWAIN) that comes with it simply won't do this from Acrobat, but it works fine for single-sided scans. Using the other TWAIN driver will scan both sides, but it

We scan our mail daily and use it for larger jobs as well. Most scanning is letter sized black and white pages. The software that HP packaged with the scanner was worthless. Unbelievably, the driver was 100s of megs and even at that did not work properly. Luckily, we discovered on HP's website a small "commercial" driver for the 8250. This driver stripped out the "bells and whistles." We used that driver for about 6 months. The problem was our actual scanning speed using the "commercial" driver was only 4 pages per minute. Finally, HP updated the commercial driver and now we are getting about 13 pages a minute, which is acceptable for us. The ADF does not jam as often as other scanners we have owned. We dab alcohol on the roller when it starts to act up. I have an HP 6110; Epson 1200U, and the 8250. All feed well. I have returned the Fujitsu ScanSnap and a Microtek scanner, because neither could feed properly. My rule now, is that I will not buy a scanner that I do not already own, unless I can test its ADF. 33 of 35 people found the following review helpful. Previous Reviewer Needs Correction By roastedbeans After reading the review "correction and complaint" I was trying to figure out where this person was coming from. He/she is incorrect on all their points.1) The color rendition is incredible and looks nearly identical to the item scanned. 2) You do not have to choose the image size. When I scan a letter document, the scanner knows it. And when I scan a legal document, it knows that too. I don't even know how to trick the thing.3) As for the grayscale having to be chosen every time: Under "scan settings" you can choose your default settings. You can tell it to default to 1 bit or 8 bit grayscale, or many different color options. This will be the default setting if you elect not to change them every time you scan.I wonderered if this reviewer had just opened the box and didn't bother to read the manual or play with the software settings before posting. Or maybe he's a Canon person.Oh well. Just thought I'd dispell some untruths on the scanjet 8250. In my opinion and use, it has been a great, full featured scanner! 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Works just fine once you figure out software By K. Lam I bought a refurbished Scanjet 8250 for $80 in Aug 2008, figuring that even if it didn't work, I'd only be out $80 rather than the original price of $800. Anyway, I have owned HP automatic-document-feeder scanners before (most recently the Scanjet 5550c w/single-sided ADF), so I alreay knew all about the quirky, slow, and clunky HP scanner software. Out of the (refurbished) box, the included original driver/software (HP Imaging 2.2) did not work with my Windows XP Pro SP3 Pentium 4 2.4 GHz Thinkpad. There were various errors and crashes, even after patching with the latest updates from the HP website. Thankfully, there was a completely new set of drivers/software dated May 2007 (HP Solution Center), which did end up working just fine, though it thought the scanner was an 8270 for some reason. Yes, HP's new software (just like the old software) is well over 100 MB and is still slow and clunky, but it includes an image/picture manager w/rudimentary photo editing features. If you don't want to deal with HP software, then HP provides a much slimmer TWAIN driver that includes most or all of the scanners features, though you wouldn't be able to use the scanner front panel buttons. You can use a third-party document manager such as PaperPort with the TWAIN drivers. I chose to install and use both sets of drivers/software. Anyway, after 2 weeks of use, the ADF hasn't yet jammed on me (from my experience with the HP 5550c ADF scanner, jams are fairly rare and that scanner has kept working for 5 years straight now). The front panel

Grosh My former scanner by Microtek was difficult to set up and did not work until I searched for hours in the documentation and on Microtek's web site and finally found a rather complicated answer. I still have to apply the "fix" to any computer I use the Microtek scanner with. In contrast, the Epson Perfection 1200 USB Scanner was a breeze to set up. I just plugged the USB cable in with my computer already on, turned the scanner on and Windows 98 detected the scanner and the "Add Driver" wizard came up. Just point that to your CD drive to load the drivers and that's it.The scanner is very fast and quiet. The twain interface is as good or better then any I've seen. The quality of the scans is top-notch across the board, from color to contrast to shadow depth.I choose this scanner based on a ZdNet review of Epson's 636 USB scanner which won their editors choice award. They said it works especially well with Epson Color printers which I found to be the case too. With a hardware resolution 1200 x 2400 dpi, the Epson Perfection 1200 USB scanner has higher optical resolution than any other scanner in it's price range. It's a real bargain.Tips: Whatever graphics program you use, set up an ICM color profile. Or use the ICM profile of your monitor. Adobe Photoshop comes with a utility to do this. Then in the twain interface of your scanner click the "Use ICM" check box. Then your scans will look more like the originals when viewed on-screen. If you have an Epson printer (I have the Stylus Color 740), when you print choose the "Epson Stylus Color 740" profile from the "color space" list. If you have another printer it should show up in the list too. This info is for printing from Photoshop, but other graphics programs should be similar.Scans printed from my Epson printer look almost identical to the original including color tone and depth.I use this scanner primarily for professional web design and personal photograph reproduction.Overall it's just a great scanner and I'm very happy with it. 81 of 82 people found the following review helpful. Windows 2000 drivers actually work, scanner a beauty! By John W. Anderson I needed a scanner that worked in Windows 2000, and decided to take a chance - based on other reviews posted here - with the Epson Perfection 1200U. The short of it is, the scanner worked right out of the box. Setup was easy, the Windows 2000 drivers I downloaded from Epson's web site installed without a glitch, and the software bundled with the scanner can't be beat. I was especially delight to find included the Presto PageManager, which is a kind of ACDSee thumbnail browser (with myriad other functions), and with it's Presto!Wrapper utility, which saves your image in a self-executing file to send to friends who might not have imaging software. Very cool. The scanner is also the fastest I've owned, and the Twain software for scanning is multi-configurable for auto-sizing, exposing, et al of your image. Very very nice. I'm very very pleased with this scanner, especially after I had bought an Acer 620U on the sole basis of its supposedly being Windows 2000 ready - only to find (to my horror and frustration) that the drivers for the Acer were bug-ridden and conflicted with my USB Iomega Zip Drive. I also had a Mustek 600II-CD, but had to give it the boot when Mustek said they weren't planning on supporting Windows 2000. So you can imagine my delight when the Epson Perfection 1200U not only worked right off the bat, but proved to be an unbeatlable value for the money considering the superior bundled software (Presto! PageManager, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, Broderbund Print Shop Press Writer, and ArcSoft's PhotoPrinter). Further, the scanner is fast, quiet, the quality of the image output is excellent, and there are other features I haven't even begun to explore. Easy and simple

Amazon.com Review Boasting sharp 2,400 x 4,800 dpi resolution, rich 48-bit color, and a fast USB 2.0 interface, the Canon CanoScan 5000F makes an ideal general-purpose scanner. Plus, it sets up quickly, includes a generous software bundle, and has a built-in 35mm film adapter that scans three negative frames or two mounted slides at a time. Installation of the scanner was fast and flawless. To set up the CanoScan 5000F, we followed the Quick Start Guide to load drivers and optional software, to unlock the scanner, and to connect the power and USB cables. Next we placed a document on the glass, pressed the copy button, and retrieved a copy from our printer. The entire process, from opening the box to holding a finished result, took only about 10 minutes. (To save time, we did not install all the optional software.) We scanned a variety of documents and photos using default settings. Results appeared sharp and clear (and fast too, thanks to full USB 2.0 support). Colors were bright, and skin tones were natural, with only modest speckling that was easily removed in software. Only one test was disappointing. Multi-scan mode lets you scan several photos at once into separate files. Unfortunately, the ScanGear CS driver had difficulty consistently recognizing individual pictures, often combining two small photos into one big one, even when they were well-separated on the glass. We saw improved results as we reduced the number of photos from four to three and still more improvement from three to two. The CD-ROM contains the ScanGear CS and WIA drivers, CanoScan Toolbox, ArcSoft PhotoStudio and PhotoBase, ScanSoft OmniPage SE, NewSoft PageManager and BizCard (trial), Adobe Acrobat Reader (and support for scanning directly into PDF files), and various software user's guides. Given these ample titles plus sturdy construction, easy setup, and Canon's generous InstantExchange warranty, the 5000F makes an excellent value for the serious home user. --Mike Brown Pros: Flawless, fast setup Large, useful software bundle Solid, fast performance Cons: Multi-mode feature doesn't always work No printed manual What's in the BoxCanoScan 5000F scanner with built-in film adapter, USB cable, AC power supply and cord, setup poster, Canon Documentation Kit including CD-ROM with the following: ScanGear CS (Windows/Mac) CanoScan Toolbox (Windows/Mac) ArcSoft PhotoStudio, ArcSoft PhotoBase, ScanSoft OmniPage SE The CanoScan 5000F USB Flatbed Scanner is loaded with advanced Canon performance features to meet your demanding scanning needs--at a less than demanding price. Excellent image quality at very reasonable price By A Customer I was researching scanners for a long time and finally debated between the Epson 2400 and the Canoscan 5000F which cost about the same. The Epson 2450 Photo seemed to have better image quality but cost about twice as much, and the Canoscan 8000 is only a bit faster and allows you to scan more slides at once than the 5000 model. Reviews seemed to favor the Canon model for color accuracy and the Epson model for speed. Moreover, Epson's support for Mac OS X is flaky and you have to download extra drivers from Epson's website.Well, I got the Canoscan and I'm very pleased with my purchase. Both image quality and speed surpassed my wildest expectations as I had an Umax Astra 1200 before. The scans are fast and colors are absolutely brilliant. Since I mostly scan color slides, I was again pleased to find out that the quality is really, really good. Scanning slides at 300dpi for 4x10 prints is a good compromise of quality and speed. You can scan two slides at once, which takes about 5 minutes. Slide scanned at 2400dpi take about 10 minutes and result in very large files of 250MB or more in Photoshop. Again, scans at this resolution are absolutely brilliant and are great for 8x10 enlargements. The local camera shop can't produce any better enlargements.Canon supports Mac OS X out of the box. No need to send in a card to Epson or download beta-version Twain drivers from their web site. Just install the software, reboot, plug in the scanner and you're all set. The included software works well with PhotoShop and offers many customization options. All in all, if you're looking for a high quality scanner at a reasonable price, the CanoScan 5000F is probably the best you can get. 98 of 100 people found the following review helpful. Waiting for the right scanner? The Canon 5000F is it! By A Customer I waited months to purchase a scanner after a bad experience with a Visioneer product shortly after I switched to XP (home edition). Goodness, was it worth the wait! I purchased the Canon based on my excellent experiences with other product lines, and knowing that this was the next, XP-designed generation. Truly plug'n'play, I was up, operational and scanning within five minutes. Do follow their advice and install the software BEFORE you plug the scanner into your USB port. I have an older USB port, and it has worked wonderfully right out of the box. Again, note that your computer may put up a little dialogue box saying "You are using a hi-speed USB device on your lo-speed USB port," but ignore it,as Canon advises you to. Everything works and works well. I use it to scan documents almost exclusively, but was favorably impressed with the accessories for film/negatives/slide scanning. The software is a little cumbersome, but that's a minor quibble. 70 of 72 people found the following review helpful. Very Good To Excellent Quality But Slow! By mp3support@wi.rr.com Being an amatuer photographer, I wanted a scanner that could scan slides and negatives. The 5000F is a flatbed scanner so it can also scan documents which makes a very versitile and useful scanner. Usually flatbed scanners do NOT make good film and slide scanners; the 5000F is an exception. It's actually based on a rather decent CCD technology rather than the cheaper CIS chip (most flatbeds), which is the reason for the very good film/slide scanning performance. It has a special back-lit slot in the cover for slides and negatives. You can scan up to 3 negs or 2 slides at once. It also has an IR dust and scratch removal sensor that works fairly well (but not on scratches). The quality is very very good but the scans are quite slow, even with a USB-2 connection. You must remove a white backing board, insert the negs or slides in provided carriers, and position the carriers in the scanner. The graphics software, Archsoft PhotoStudio, is quite

Canon PIXMA MP800 All In One Photo Printer

Canon PIXMA MP800 All In One Photo Printer

Brand: Canon Model: 0581B002 Dimensions: 9.50" h x 19.30" w x 18.60" l, 26.40 pounds Print resolutions up to 9,600 x 2,400 dpi color and 600 x 600 dpi black Optical scan resolution of 2,400 x 4,800 dpi Print and copy at speeds up to 30 ppm black and 24 ppm color Preview images on 3.5" digital screen One-year warranty

The advanced PIXMA MP800 Photo All-In-One delivers spectacular Print Copy-Scan performance. It produces an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi, for remarkable detail and clarity. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3,584-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as one picoliter. The result? Smoother, virtually grain-free images. Also, our ContrastPLUS five-color ink system--four dye-based inks and a pigment-based black ink--produces true-life photos with a wide color palette, along with laser-quality text. What about speed? A 4"x 6" photo lab quality borderless photo takes approximately 36 seconds. When copying, the AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. The convenient Photo/Film buttons allow you to make reprints of your photos and 35mm film without using your computer. And now, scanning: The unit's higher-resolution CCD technology enables you to produce exceptional 2,400-dpi scans, with vibrant 48-bit color depth. You can simultaneously scan up to six frames of 35mm film (negatives or positives), or up to four mounted slides. Plus, advanced paper handling features are built in - such as two paper trays and two-sided printing. Want to evaluate and enhance your images before printing? Just insert your compatible memory card into one of the built-in card slots, then select the images on the extra-large 3.5" LCD color viewer. As needed, images will be automatically enhanced for red eye, sharpness and brightness values, or you can fine tune the images yourself using the easy control panel. Then, print directly from the memory card! As an option, you can print directly from a PictBridge-ready device such as a digital camera. The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA MP800 Photo All-In-One's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. And with the new smart LED ink tanks, your LED lamp flashes when ink is running low, and flashes even faster when nearing empty. What's in the Box: PIXMA MP800 Photo All-in-One, PIXMA MP800 print head, ink tanks: PGI-5Bk Black, CLI-8 (black, cyan, magenta, yellow), power cord, easy setup instructions, documentation kit, Canon Photo Paper Pro for Borderless Printing 4" x 6" sample pack

Cumming I purchased the mp800 to replace my Lexmark X-85 "INK GOBBLER" because I got tired of not being able to refill the ink successfully and paying through the nose for replacement ink cartridges. The Lex X-85 was over three years old and I was ready for a better printer that new technology had to offer. I am very pleased with the MP800. It's printing quality and speed is excellent for this caliber of printer. Most of the photos I have printed are on "Jet Print" professional photo paper which has worked well. I have yet to purchase some Canon Photo Paper Pro and try it. I did however print one 4x6 photo from the included pack of Canon Photo Paper Pro that came with the printer. The photo quality was amazing! Regarding the refilling of the ink cartridges: I purchased the 5 ink refill kit from re-inks.com for $60.00. the kit has enough ink for about 12 refills of per cartridge The printer is smart enough to know that you are using refilled ink cartridges but it allows you to continue with a warning that Canon may not be responsible for damage. once you get past the warning the printer asks you to press the stop/reset button for 5 seconds and the printer will continue to print using the refilled cartridge but when you view the Ink Status Monitor it shows the ink tank level as empty. So in the future you will have to manually remove the cartridge to view it's ink quality. This is easy to do because Canon's ink tanks are Clear Plastic! This simple reset procedure is required each time the printer detects a refilled cartridge. I suspect that once all 5 cartridges have been "released" from ink detection, it might not ask you again to go through the reset process again. I haven't got there yet. Thanks canon for leaving the Ink Refill Door Open! Hope this info helps. Scott 101 of 103 people found the following review helpful Very Good! By Mark Mcneil Excelent photo print speed and quality. Dual paper feed a plus, no need to remove paper from feed tray when printing photos and envelopes, just load the second feed source. Software easy and seems very Windows compatable unlike some others. Ink tank system very smart, no need to buy expensive cartridges with built-in print heads and the five seperate ink tank allows replacement of individual color. Recommend original Canon ink, read PCWorld.com (Cheap Ink Probed) article. 55 of 56 people found the following review helpful. Good quality of photo printing By T. Chen Good quality photo printing, good copy quality. Double side print is a plus Good scan results. Good price. Photo printing works well with Kodak and Canon photo paper, it doesn't work well with HP photo paper, save your money by using Kodak or Canon photo paper if you have this printer. Don't use it with HP photo paper. The ink cartridges are kind of expensive, they have chips on the cartridges to check the ink levels and detect if the cartridges are been refilled or not I refilled my color cartridges and the printer detected the changes in the ink level and warned me that the ink cartridges are not original and could harm the printer, but I decided to use the refilled ink cartridges. And it still works very well in terms of color precision and quality for more than 6 months. I think it's just a new way that printer manufactures try to scare comsumers to use refilled cartridges. Since ink cartridges are bigger revenues than the printers. Each refill for a cartirdge is about 30 cents compare to original cartridge price 12 to 16 dollars. I am a heavy printing user, in about a year, the money I saved will be worth a new printer. See all 83 customer reviews....

Versatile enough to use with film in 35mm, strip, slide, or Advanced Photo System (APS) formats, Nikon's Super Coolscan 4000 offers fast and reliable FireWire connectivity and bright, accurate color scans that are ideal for high-end professional and business uses. Multisample scanning technology automatically removes surface blemishes, while Digital ICE image correction removes fingerprints and dust, equalizes grain, and restores faded images to full color. Scanning is accomplished with 14-bit A-D conversion (16-bit output) through an advanced Nikon ED glass lens. The Super Coolscan 4000's 48-bit color and 4,000 dpi optical resolution result in exceptional clarity and color depth. An LED light source helps to provide consistent, crisper color. The scanning area is 25mm x 38mm with your choice of automatic or manual focus. The unit is also fast, with maximum resolution scans clocking in at around 38 seconds. The software bundle includes Canto Cumulus 5.0 Demo, and Nikon Scan 3.0 Driver to help you fine-tune images before printing. Weighing only 6.6 pounds, the Super Coolscan 4000 has a reasonably small footprint of only 12.4 by 3.7 inches. It connects to most Mac and PC systems via an IEEE 1394 (OHCI compliant) interface card and comes with a variety of adapters for popular film formats.

Truly amazing By A Customer I think I was really awed when I scanned some black and white negatives, and got a positive for it and then adjusted the contrast and brightness, bringing out details that were not evident when I originally took the photo. I have also scanned color negatives, and made prints. I got it primarily to archive my extensive slide collection. I found that one of my slides had a scratch across a person's face. Using the sophisticated tools available with the program, I used multiple scans and the finished copy is scratch free. When using the 4000 dpi scanning setting, be prepared for some really large files. If one plans to get this, and one has a lot of material to scan, getting the largest available hard drive would be recommended. I plan to archive my slides to hard disk drive, then transfer copies as lower sized jpg files to a CD ROM. My only wish was that the program would have a way to put annotations on the copied slides; I am using a separate program to do that I have found that my scans capture even the tiniest detail of the original slide, and one cannot ask for more than that. Some might think it a bit pricey for a scanner, but it does a fabulous job as a dedicated scanner.I wished they had provided a complete written manual; the detailed manual is on their provided CD-ROM, in Adobe acrobat format. The Abode program is provided, but it is 153 pages long and takes a bit of time to print. A shortened manual is provided, and covers most of the essentials so a complete manual printed out is not essential. The software with the scanner is very easy to use and the tools for adjusting the scans are interactive. If one is using XP on their computer, an updated progam for XP is available..., and is about 15MB as a zip file. I recently scanned a 32 year old Ektachrome slide taken under the worst possible conditions (indoors, incandescent lighting, with the outdoor film) It always had a yellow cast to it, which it normally would under those conditions. Upon recent scanning (to preserve it before it lost everything) it showed embeded dirt and scratches. I used the digital ICE, and it came out sparkling clear, and the drapes which looked like yellowed newspaper became a crystal clear cream white, as it was in the room where I first took the slide. I have also scanned old slides that were badly faded, and restored the color and luster. 102 of 103 people found the following review helpful. The best scanner for 35mm ... period. By Carl E. Feather After using a Nikon LS-1000 for two years and constantly being frustrated with the scanner's poor performance on slides, I was blown away by the first scan I did with my Coolscan 4000. The colors were right on, the density nearly perfect and best of all, no more processing artifacts thanks to the Digital ICE I used to have to spend 15 minutes carefully cloning out those little dust spots and other defects on every high-res scan. Now I can concentrate on scanning rather than retouching. The sharpness of the images are noticeably improved, which I attribute to the ED lens. The color saturation is wonderful and shadow detail is excellent, even on a constrasty slide.I use a Coolscan 2000 at work and the 4000 is definitely a huge improvement over that scanner. For the [price] difference, the 4000 is the one to own.The Digital GEM and ROC are worth that price alone if you have slides or negatives in which the color has shifted. It is absolutely amazing this software restores these old images. I had some very red chromes from the 70s that it restored to full color. While some reviewers have complained about the sharpness of negative scans, I have not found this to be a problem And Nikon includes the option of using a film holder rather than the negative adapter for scanning. In short, this scanner is the one to beat. I can't imagine 35mm film scanning getting any better. This one is a keeper,.

Most helpful customer reviews 50 of 50 people found the following review helpful. Fast and Convenient By Mad Dog The Canoscan LiDE 80 is easy to use for a variety of applications and the USB Hi-Speed (no longer USB2) interface is super fast and convenient since it not only is the data link, but supplies power to the scanner. If your power hub is as congested as mine, you'll appreciate this bonus. The LiDE 80 comes standard with a film adapter unit so you can scan 35 mm film or unmounted slide film. although the literature claims the film scanner runs at 2400 x 4800 DPI, I don't buy it. My Nikon fim scanner is 2900 DPI and gives MUCH better scans of 35 mm film. No contest. Then again, it was quite a bit more (4X)expensive than the LiDE 80 and only scans film...The LiDE 80 includes software for automatic retouching of scratches and dust - and it also now has grain and fading correction. I tried these features on color photos taken over 50 years ago and was pleasantly surprised with the results Overall, this is a nice package that goes well beyond the typical bargain scanner. 83 of 88 people found the following review helpful. Good Scanner, Poor OS X Drivers By G. Colasurdo I got this scanner to replace a 1220U for the Film scanning and decent OS X drivers. Unfortunately the drivers on the CD are really bad, but the ones on-line (Tool Box 4.1.3 and LiDE 7.2.1.0 as of this writing) are better, so download them first. PhotoShop Elements is a great bonus but the OmniScan SE is a "classic" only app. Not Canon's fault but still disappointing. Also the film tray is for negatives, not slides so be aware of that. Otherwise it is a nice scanner, light weight, compact and combines USB and power in the same cable (down with AC adaptors!). Mac OS X people get the drivers from the website first. 43 of 44 people found the following review helpful. The scanning software is easy to use with a good range of options. However, when it comes to scanning slides it is most disappointing as they always come out dark. To compensate I try tweaking the brightness and contrast settings in the software but the colors in the dark areas are never true. You can play around with the image in a photo-editing program but they are always disappointing and never get near the quality of color and clarity that you get when projected onto a screen. If you want a scanner that scans slides then go for something else, and if all you need to scan is photos and documents then you don't need this scanner. Beware of reviews that appear to parrot the sales blurb. 26 of 30 people found the following review helpful. excellent scanner By Alwyn Lim I recently bought the Canon CanoScan 3000F and have been very pleased with how it has performedIt was very easy to install. Just stick the CD in and follow the instructions (my grandfather installed it, and he has trouble composing e-mail through hotmail!). Some of the great features include being able to scan negatives. This is true even if you have destroyed your image, you can still scan the negative and has a crystal clear image on your PC. Scans of magazines, photographs, etc. have come out incredibly sharp high resolution. Specifications: 1200 x 2400 dpi and 48-bit inputUSB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface for faster scanning speedIncluded FAU accepts a frame of 35 mm film Easy operation with Canon's exclusive multi-scan modeOne downside to Canon is that it is a little bulky, but overall it looks and performs great. 13 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Plenty of bells & whisles, but poor image scanning By Jason Woodward I've always been a big fan of Canon's scanners, but the Canoscan 3000f really let me down I've been using the Canoscan n1240u and have always liked the great colors and vivid scans. I decided to upgrade to the new 3000f, manily because it will scan negatives and slides. Unfortunately, the reproduction quality on these types of scans are not very good. The color reproduction is very poor and the image quality, even at extremely high resolutions is not as true as it is on some of the less expensive Canon scanners. Even after having spent a lot of time working with various settings and options in the scanning software, the quality was still not as good as I would like to have seen. Hopefully Canon will get these problems fixed with their next line of film & photographic scanners. See all 5 customer reviews....

A Film Adaptor Unit (FAU) allows scanning of 35mm negatives and slides. Scanning no longer involves waiting around. A new ASIC controller chip processes files in record time, the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection is up to four times faster than a standard USB connection. 1200x 2400 dpi resolution and 48 bit color-depth guarantee superb, crisp image quality. Clean, smooth lines combine with a stunning gloss finish to match function with form - a functioning work of art for the desk.

Brand: Canon Model: 9050A002 Platform: Mac OS X Original language: English Dimensions: 2.70" h x 18.70" w x 10.20" l, 6.10 pounds 1,200 x 2,400 optical resolution 48-bit color depth, 16-bit grayscale Capable of scanning an A4 page in just 17 seconds Z-Lid expansion top for bulky objects USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface; compatible with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP

Early Adopters Pick: October 2003. One of the fastest flatbed scanners available, the CanoScan 3200F delivers impressive 1,200 x 2,400 dpi scans in 48-bit color, and it corrects scratches and other aging effects. A film adapter lets you scan negatives and transparencies. The scanner also boasts sleek lines and a gloss-finish lid with a textured surround to prevent finger marking. The CanoScan 3200F can scan an A4 page in just 17 seconds (at 600 dpi, using Windows XP with USB 2.0 and a Pentium 4, 1.7 GHz processor and 256 MB RAM), making it twice as fast as its predecessor, the CanoScan 3000F. A super-fast USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection transfers image data from scanner to computer up to four times faster than standard USB connections, while an ASIC controller chip takes advantage of increased memory to process large data files in record time. The scanner engine is both faster and more powerful than those in previous models. The scanner's Fast Multi-Photo mode creates separate de-skewed files from a single-pass scan of multiple photographs, while Canon's QARE Level 2 technology automatically removes dust and scratches from scans of reflective originals; it also corrects for color fading and graininess, saving you hours of manual retouching. Four customizable "EZ" buttons can be individually configured to perform commonly used functions. These can include scanning straight to a PDF file, scanning directly to a printer (copying), and scanning automatically to a ready-to-go e-mail attachment. Since not everything can be scanned in single-sheet form, the 3200F's special Z-lid accommodates very thick items and applies equal pressure across the entire document, ensuring great quality when scanning from books, magazines, and manuals. The CanoScan 3200F comes with a host of powerful applications: Ulead DVD Slide Theatre creates DVD playable slide shows and writes these to CD-R. It's ideal for converting photo or transparency sets into television viewable slide shows. ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 is an image-editing program that handles color adjustment, labelling, and album storage and retrieval. OmniPage SE 2.0 is a powerful Optical Character Recognition application that allows scanned text to be converted into recognisable text characters/data. By A Customer I bought this scanner primarily to be used to scan old photos and negatives, but also wanted the occassional document to be crisp and clear. I have been thrilled with my results so far. The photo correction (during the scan) does a wonderful job of clearing up the effects of aging although it did tend to add a bit of blue to the "true" colors of the photos. I have a separate photo enhancement software package that I use as I don't think the software included with the scanner is adequate for my purposes. Documents scan well and I LOVE that you can save it as a text document! The scan speed is great too--even at 1200ppi! A wonderful scanner and a bargain for the price! 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Works great with Mac OS X By Emily Lessard I've tried a lot of scanners with my Powerbook (Epson, HP, UMAX and Canon) - NONE of them worked as well or as fast as this one For all you Mac people out there, you know how hard it can be to find software and hardware that works fluidly, especially with OS X. I've scanned photos, slides and negatives and had great results with all three. I highly recommend this product. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A must have for amateur photographers By Birder Lover "Steve" If you are like me and have switched to a digital camera and have some old negatives and prints that you would like to incorporate in your electronic presentations, this is a perfect scanner. The quality is comparable to my old print film and it brings to new life old pictures. Agree completely with the reviewers who recommend Photoshop or Elements to work with the scanner. The start-up guide could have been more informative, but I played with it a bit and no problem See all 9 customer reviews....

Slides were sitting in a big box in my house for years. The bulb on the projector slide projector was burned in 1960, so we have not seen the slides of 10 years. I questioned the quality of such an inexpensive scanner, but I once tried, has yielded good results. A reservation I have some slides that have aluminum frames (my father used to develop his own slides) and the scanner would not work because the chassis is designed for scanning slides of paper. But I was able to remove the slide and scan them into the frame. The scan was really easy. Press a button to preview and another button for scanning. It takes an SD memory card (or connect to a computer), so I stuck in an SD card and is checked when I watched TV. Scan each slide literally took less than 2 seconds. Tips: There were several trays of slides that are not stored on the SD card, may have been the memory card is not inserted correctly so I had to repeat the scanning of these. The scan 5 or 6 plates, then copy them to my computer. Thus, if a lot was bad, I had to scan the 5 or 6 plates. But I have scanned 2000 slides and only happened once, so I think it was just user error. Since I was scanning thousands of slides, separated by trays of 30 slides (some were less than 30) I found a couple of blank slides the tray number and write on it with a black marker and analysis of a partition, so I could easily order the slides scanned into folders. After removing the old scans the SD card, scans new beginning to be named / numbered from the beginning (Scan001, Scan002, etc.) then you must be careful when you copy on your computer so as not to crush the scans of age . So, once I copied the slides from my computer, I have divided them into folders and rename them. (You can do this in batches easily in Windows, or on a Mac with an AppleScript: Replace Text in Item Names) 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Frustrating! By RG I purchased this scanner after reviewing all available. The reviews were good, so I bought it. What a mistake! It is not a product for the faint of heart-if you like dealing with frustration, this is the one for you! Half the time the batteries work with it, and half the time not. When I tried to use it with the USB on both my desktop (running XP, and my laptop running Windows7) neither computer SAW the device, and everything I could think of did not work to install it. The software with it is a joke. Usually Windows7 will install almost anything (sensing the compatible system to use) but not this one! The scanner captures the image about 50% of the time it indicates it has saved it to the card. I continually have to take out the card, insert it and check that the image is actually there. Also, the tray that holds the slides to be scanned is very awkward to use The tiny latch that is used to open & close the tray is awkward. Also, you have to be very careful that it is closed properly, or it can get stuck in the machine. Trust me on that one! I thought by the price, it would be half way decent. The images (when saved) are as good as the slides, however, getting to that part is most definitely an exercise in patience. I have boxes and boxes of slides to scan, and this will most assuredly not be the piece of equipment that completes that task. Also, the manual is obviously written by someone who does not speak English as a native tongue. That makes things even more fun. The instructions are obtuse and unclear and worded quite oddly. This might be for you if you are as patient as a saint, and have about 12 years or more to scan all your slides. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Our goal was to so transfer all our photos and digitize them that we could look on our computers at our ease. Using a handheld scanner is a learning process. One must have patience and not try and scan speed. The results of the scanner is very good. What really counts is the quality of your pictures and computer software you use them to your hard drive. This is a very good product that's more than enough for the job. All 1 reviews ...

The slide and negative scanner. It takes a strip of negatives, a group of five slides. The resulting scanned images are sharp enough to 5 "X7" print, but the contrast (increase contrast) and color depth (smaller number of colors leads to more posterish images) suffers. Unfortunately, to get better results, you need a scanner that costs range from 3 to 5 times as much. (Epson V700 is a good example). The good news is that it is easy to install and scan. It saves directly to an SD card (was included), so you do not use the computer. I like to scan the TV to avoid boredom. All in all, I've got what I paid. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. SVP Slide / Film Scanner with Harry J. Webb It's pretty amazing for the price, but there are also disadvantages to keep it out of five stars. The plastic slide / film holders seem a little 'fragile and difficult to use (especially for open), and make the process of tediousAnything than 35mm is very difficult to work. On the positive side, the scans are clean and fast, and the optional memory card (get one!) Possesses an incredible number of photos. I recommend it to anyone (and is) like old movies or slide around. I have scanned with about 2,000 since I bought it and have had to wipe the screen from time to time (useful for cleaning little understood.) I have color slides, color and black and white negatives and I'm happy with the results. See all 2 customer reviews ....

STIVALI If you're like me, you have thousands of pictures over the years, pulls the stuff in a box never to be seen. Albums have also nested and can be difficult to share with family and friends. At a time when digital media devices and big screen TV is affordable and plentiful, scanning old photos is a better way to share them. Enter ScanPro 35mm slide and negative scanner. I was beginning to operate such a cheap scanner would be skeptical. So far, after the first few hundred scans, I was proven wrong. Here's what you need to know. First, this is not the best scanner, if you consider a professional image and want the best possible quality. The pictures I have scanned in the 2 or 3 days more than acceptable in order to preserve the memories of more than 20 years. They also correctly display when running a slideshow on my 67 "screen via my DirecTV DVR Secondly, the included software (BlazePhoto of BlazeVideo) is very intuitive and easy to use. It matters not a degree in rocket science need to understand. The process is simple. Place the negative strip into the holder and insert it into the scanner. Wait for the scanner to adjust the brightness and contrast adjust. The preview window allows you to manually adjust the brightness and color change before a final scan. up to 12 images can be scanned before storing them. Each image is uniquely named with the current date and time counter and a manual that constantly updates the software with each scan. Despite the convenience, I believe the software found a number of functions or features that can make it even more missing. I hope that another program (eg Adobe Photoshop) that can interact with a USB scanner work as well. Finally, it is important to note that all non-essential USB devices from your computer before scanning any additional tax to the amount of light projected onto the film, which will then affect a worse picture. This advice is clearly stated in the manual. Overall, I recommend this device for hobbyists and photogs family both with great memories to save. Personally I find it easier than using a flatbed for scanning individual print and is certainly much cheaper than paying someone to do the processing for you. 17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Good buy! I would recommend! By L. DeGroat I've read many, many reviews about the film and slide scanners. I was always told you get what you pay for. I was very skeptical about buying this product at this low a price. I bought it through Amazon.com and thought it a good return policy if it was something that was wrong, so I ordered it. At the time of my purchase, which also gives a 2gig card with the scanner made the purchase even better. I received the unit on Friday and could not wait to use it, but had to wait until Monday to prove it. I bought my wife to scan, parents slides 30 to 50 years for a Christmas present and some family around and not give anything away. I tried the first 35 mm film and was not impressed with the result, but had not used the program to retouch images yet, so I'm not discarding. As I mentioned, however, I bought to make slides. All I can say is WOW! They did very well. I did not do any retouching them and not sure what you need. Yes, it may not be as great as if they were sent, but they are very good and not have to worry about being lost in the mail, if you know what I mean. I did about 600 slides a day (once in a while, not directly) and was much faster than I thought it would be.

Dust, dust, dust from JoeSchmoe With all the talk about the quality of the Epson scanners, I was disappointed with the lack of quality that came from me. In short, there was dust under the glass in the scanner where it is unreachable, I can see with the visible eye and that is magnified in the scanned images. Image quality was excellent, except that all dust spots on the photos. As consumers have complained about a similar dust problem with previous Epson scanners, I thought it would fix it with this new model, but they did not. In fact, quality does not seem to have improved - there's even a fingerprint on the underside of the glass. I send it back here and get a Canon or HP instead. 35 of 36 people found the following review helpful. A little disappointed, L. Manstrom I liked the excellent quality of my Epson printers and wanted to give an opportunity for the scanner with the price, you can not beat the picture quality or the fact that it includes an adapter 35 mm film. But I have a couple of issues that are serious enough for me to write about.1) powder. There was enough dust on the glass of the first unit I received to ensure that they share the same. Now I have the second unit, there is still powder (Epson quality control is lacking), but not both. It is not entirely clear when scanning at 72 dpi (for uploading to the web) but it is * very * noticeable on the screen when scanning at 300 dpi or higher for printing. Fortunately, hardly noticeable when printed. I have not decided if that's enough for me to send again.2) the Smart Panel software interface appears randomly and is very annoying. Even though I do not have anything scanned from the beginning, has just been opened for any reason. The closing is not good, it will open again. Minimize it is not good, it's always refreshing Epson referred me to their third party software vendors, NewSoft, where I am following in their FAQ: "ESP2-0013 Why is the Smart Panel interface opens a coincidence that the problem was due to scanner? driver recognizes the wrong hardware code to launch Smart Panel. Our development team on the topic of work. Visit NewSoft website for further release notice, only if it includes a new patch for this problem. "Great, no end in sight. If not for these two major errors that should be easily fixed with a little quality control would be an incredibly wonderful device price. 32 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Good performance for the money from a customer, I've always preferred the Epson scanner. At work we have used the top of the line, so if I need a housing unit, I thought it would fill the bill. So far I am very happy with it. It is lighter weight and slower than the professional models I've used, but also cheaper! Set up was easy and worked from the moment I am satisfied with the performance and quality of analysis, all the tests I've done so far is very good. Slides adapter works well, too complicated to convert a value from a tray of slides quickly, but the quality is surprisingly good. The software is good, but have switched to manual mode and TWAIN scanning everything in Photoshop. This is a keeper - After living with him for a while, I have uploaded my rating of 4-5 stars. The only reason I did it four stars instead of 5 is 3.2 Dymanic Range. I used the scanner literally hundreds of slides, both mounted and scanned in groups, with no problems what-so-ever. The scanner was easy to install, the software works perfectly. All my pictures on my website were taken with this scanner. Not for the faint hearted By Brad Bonner, I have this scanner for a year and a half, and sat through almost 5,000 slides. I am satisfied with the quality of the scans for what I paid for it. I use this as a proofing tool - I just get my negatives developed (if I must shoot prints) and then scan the proof. Or when I slip to shoot, and they want the Internet or retouch them. The scanner is up to 8x12 at 400dpi. which is fine. Again, you have to pay what you look like. The general scratches removal of features that would have the top models beautiful, but again reiterated the price this is a great little scanner. I have been happy. I even have it working in XP, but it took some research. Information for installation in XP or 2000, available [online]. See all 13 customer reviews ....

Patterson, I have with this printer / scanner for more than two weeks. This replaced an old HP multifunction system that had problems with my Mac when printing over the network. I work from home and have several computers with Vista, XP and Mac OS X and wanted to share a printer / scanner. I must admit that the driver installation is not the cleanest, and I needed to make newer versions on the disk made available to download to enable printing from 64-bit applications on the Mac. The configuration I am on, that it is not clear that you have connected the printer via USB, have to create the first connection to a wireless network security in his pocket. Well, one step up, it works a dream that allows me to print and scan from any computer anywhere in the house. Scanning is decent (I'm not a huge need for quality, but I can not complain about something I scanned), it looks gorgeous colors and photos are required for double-sided printing is an important protective role for general purpose printing. The only thing I feel this device may get better for my purposes, a document feeder for scanning the crowd and a built-in fax capabilities. 60 of 60 people found the following review helpful. Worth the price! Chris Before I had this printer I bought a Kodak All-in-one. He announced that lab-quality prints at half price. It worked well the first month of having it. After I've never been so frustrated with an electronic device. It is the most important topics are a design flaw in the head, noisy operation, paint did not last long, problems with paper feed, bad software, and he would not let me print photos on anything other than the Kodak paper. Then, after replacing the print head three times I called him out and decided I wanted something I could count on the Canon MP980 Enter. This printer is Kodak's double, but worth every penny. The views are incredible, and print 4x6 photos faster than any other printer I used. There is also a dedicated gray ink cartridge that allows for some photographic prints in grayscale / black and white. The print is completely effortless. Everything works. The program installation a breeze. Can I replace each ink by an individual (not that I had to yet). It has all the basic features like multiple flash memory card reader, photo of the bridge, trying to separate plain and photo paper, duplex and some advanced features. As a "silent" mode. Optional blue-tooth and Wi-Fi built in large LCD screen. The wireless connection is very simple. The scanner is fully functional and in addition to all the basics, you will be doing the film and negatives. LEDs are also available so there is no "warm up" time. Although there appears a message saying to standby mode for the scanner to warm up, but it is only about 1 second thing I thought is a nice touch. Standard paper tray slides inside the printer. When in standby mode, shut all subjects and openings on the printer. If a print, the door where the paper leaves it open to start automatically. There are no worries of things inside the printer, always dusty. The software supplied with the printer is really nice, straightforward, and works well. So far no problems. I could not be more pleased with this amazing machine. Of course nothing is perfect. I thought it would be nice to directly to DVD's like some other printers can not print this. It is the largest borderless photo printing is just 8.5 "x 11". When you turn on the first anniversary of the day it goes through a routine ground, where it is the ink tanks and printhead ready (I suppose). The process can take up to a minute. My biggest objection is that the photo paper handling loads the rear When printing on special paper to open the tray. Do not store paper inside, like a standard paper tray. So when you want to print photos, you need to.
